Banbury Crossroads School Technology, Intranet, and Internet Policy

Policy:
Students and staff are offered the opportunity to utilize multimedia equipment for a variety of purposes. One is to provide some effective means of transmitting and receiving information. Each of the pieces of equipment offers a particular format for this transfer of information. Another major impetus for obtaining computers in particular is the availability of excellent instructional programs and other encyclopedic material. We intend to provide for our students and staff as many educational resources as possible, within our economic means.
Another goal of this school is to provide familiarity with current technologies, so that our students and staff can adapt to , and make use of these tools to better perform their daily tasks. All technological equipment is ultimately used for the purpose of communication.
Since these audio-visual materials are in limited supply, it is necessary to devise a fair means of ensuring access to staff and students who need them. This policy is intended to allow the greatest number of people the greatest amount of access.
Since equipment of this nature is expensive to obtain and maintain, care must be taken to preserve it. By accessing these services, students and staff implicitly agree to abide by the policies of our school regarding use, access, and maintenance.
Decisions regarding the purchase and/or rental of new communications technology rest with the Principal, or Vice Principal and occur in accordance with financial ability. Suggestions and input regarding specific needs and possibilities are welcomed from parents, students and staff.
The set-up and maintenance of computer equipment and other audio-visual equipment will if necessary, be accomplished under the guidance of a teacher on staff or internal/external IT professional. Training of staff and students on the use of this equipment will also be handled by this person.

Internet and Computer Usage Guidelines
By using this equipment and accessing our network, students, staff, and guests implicitly agree:

  1. To handle the equipment with care.
  2. To replace any components that break due to negligence or willful damage.
  3. To use only installed software on all units.

Virus Protection and Internet Filters
The school provides updated virus protection to ensure protection of school software and users data.
The school network also utilizes a secure hardware firewall to protect against intrusion.
Internet filtering is in place to prevent student or staff access to disallowed internet sites, by classification. The capability also exists for internet monitoring and user logging. The school reserves the right to institute monitoring and logging without prior notice to students or staff.
